Hong Kong actress Karena Lam gave birth to 2.95kg baby girl Kayla via Caesarean section on Thursday in Vancouver, Canada, reported Hong Kong media.

"I originally wanted to give birth the most natural way and even wanted to avoid any form of anesthetic.

"But after I went into labour, the foetus' umbilical cord was found to have wound itself around its neck and the doctors decided to operate," said Lam.

She said her husband, advertisement director Steve Yuan held her hand throughout the process and personally cut the umbilical cord.

Lam, who has since been discharged, revealed that she hopes to have another child but dismissed rumours that she would be giving up showbiz for motherhood.

"I have never said anything about retirement. It's just that my daughter is still very young, so I am temporarily unable to return to work.

"Acting is my life's work. These few years have been an experience for me. Maybe it will help me in my work next time but I am not in a hurry."

Although Lam claimed that she has not completely abandoned her acting career, the actress admitted that she will be a lot more selective about the projects she takes on in the future.

"I will only accept a role if I am interested in it," said Lam, adding that she would probably return to Hong Kong with her daughter some time next year, at the earliest.

Hong Kong-based actress Karena Lam acts opposite 12 men in Fit Lover (Aiqing Zuodeng Youxing), a comedy which started shooting this week.

The film follows Lam's search for Mr Right, during which she meets 12 men of different astrological signs and characteristics. Noted actor Huang Lei, Lu Yi and budding star Zhang Junning are among the 12 candidates for Lam's final choice. Popular comedian Huang Bo plays an angel who helps Lam to make the right decision.

The award-winning Lam has previously teamed up with many A-list actors like Eric Tsang and the late Leslie Cheung. But it is still a refreshing to watch her play opposite so many actors in one picture. The 30-year-old has been widely considered a talented actress since her film debut in 2002, which won her two best new performer awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards and Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards.

The film will wrap in October and hit the profitable winter theater season.

Karena Lam once again challenged her sexiness and suddenly went one step further. She has rarely appeared in sexy clothing in public events but instead she sacrificed for Art. She didn’t wear any upper garments and only used her long hair to cover her chest. She posed half naked for a photography exhibition art work. The main theme was to demonstrate the feeling of a girl and flowers. It was beyond one’s depth to truly understand the theme and the purpose behind it, although the result of the photos seemed to make people think she had exposed herself. But Karena’s management stressed that she had done all safety precautions beforehand. They also claimed that as long as future movie's has a new challenge, Karena will accept in performing with more sexiness.
