TOKYO — South Korean actress Choi Ji-woo is currently in Tokyo to introduce her latest TV drama "Star no Koibito," which will start airing on WOWOW from May 1. Asked about her boyfriend and any possible marriage plans, Choi said, "I will report to my fans first if I have something I wish everyone to celebrate. Please be patient for a while."

The new drama is about a university lecturer (Choi) and her love life. The drama was filmed in South Korea as well as Nara, Kobe and Osaka.

It was reported this past Thursday that Choi Ji Woo (33) had been dating Lee Jin Wook (27) who was younger than her by 6 years with photos as evidence with some even speculating that they might be getting married soon. In what appears to be reality mirroring her recently concluded drama Star's Lover, Choi Ji Woo broke her silence in an interview yesterday, admitting that she was in a relationship with Lee Jin Wook but denied that they had been dating for 2 years and are just in the stage of getting to know each other better now.

Choi Ji Woo expressed that although she and Jin Wook knew each other first 2 years ago while filming Air City, it was only recently that they had developed good feelings about each other. Even dating each other started recently only. She expressed, "We were just colleagues while filming the drama 2 years ago. It was only recently that we have developed good feelings towards each other. Then again, we haven't been really seeing each other often lately because of work. He (Jin Wook) might be young but he is very mature."

acted swiftly by releasing another news related to the drama Star’s Lover today. Choi Ji Woo will be turned into Hwang Jin-I, a legendary gisaeng of the Joseon Dynasty and this will be her first time wearing a period costume since her debut.

Since her debut in 1994, Choi Ji Woo has never been in a period drama and this will be her first. This particular period movie scene which sees her character, Lee Ma Ri turn into Hwang Jin-I will be shown in the first episode tonight.

Choi Ji Woo has been acting out lots of scenes associated with a top star, walking the red carpet, drama announcement, press conference, etc and now a movie filming scene. Those present at the filming felt that it was like a woman from a painting and expressed, “Hwang Jin-I is back.” Although this scene appears for just a few seconds, Choi Ji Woo took nearly 3 hours for makeup, outfitting, etc. Choi Ji Woo expressed, “It’s a pity that the scene was for only a short time.

A special SBS drama espisode on Choi Ji-woo as a ballerina will be shownin "Star's Lover".

In this short drama, Choi Ji-woo is Lee Marie and costars with Yoo Ji-tae who is Kim Cheol-soo. Kim Cheol-soo is a college professor who becomes a writer caused by financial distress. He leases the ballerina's home in Japan while he is working.

Marie meets Cheol-soo as she goes back to her home. He sees Marie stretching in the morning for her daily practive and falls for her.

This short drama will be aired starting the 10th.

Choi Ji Woo Lowers Her Pay; Kwon Sang Woo Works For Free

With the economy downturn, many investors have become more reticent with investing their money in Korean dramas and movies. Earlier, there have been calls for actors and actresses to lower their salary to a more realistic level so that the Korean entertainment industry can still function like normal.

According to research done by the Korean Broadcasting Committee, 60% of the television production fees go towards paying the cast members. This is 30% higher than American productions. The biggest earner was Bae Yong Joon who commanded 200 million won per episode for Tae Wang Sa Shin Gi. Song Seung Hoon gets 70 million won per episode for East of Eden while A-listers like Kwon Sang Woo, Park Shin Yang, Lee Jung Jae gets approximately 50 million won per episode. Although Choi Ji Woo’s pay is significantly lesser than the guys, she’s still the biggest earner among actresses, commanding 48 million won per episode. Song Hae Gyo is second, earning 35 million won per episode.

Yoo Ji Tae Cast in Star's Lover

Actor Yoo Ji Tae, who usually only acts in movies, will play in the much anticipated television drama “Star’s Lover”, previously known as “Oh! My Goddess”. He will be playing as an undergraduate trying to woo top star Choi Ji Woo.

According to a representative from SBS, Yoo Ji Tae has already reached an agreement with the production company. The only remaining step is to sign the contract, therefore this is as good as confirmed. The representative continued that with the addition of Yoo Ji Tae, the cast selection for “Star’s Lover” is already completed. The shooting will begin the latest in the start of October.

Although Yoo Ji Tae had acted in many movies, he only acted once in a drama which was a two-episode miniseries, Lost Baggage (Love Story) in 1999. Therefore, the casting of Yoo Ji Tae with Choi Ji Woo will no doubt help push the popularity of the drama.

In “Star’s Lover”, Yoo Ji Tae will play as an ordinary undergraduate, who falls in love with top actress Lee Ma Ri (Choi Ji Woo). “Star’s Lover” is scheduled to premiere in December, replacing “The Painter of the Wind“.

If we're lucky, the Asian star actress Choi Ji-woo will make a comeback through a drama. "Oh! My Goddess" is an SBS drama hopefully starring Choi as top actress Lee Marie. The writer for "Lovers in Paris" has written this piece where Lee Marie will be chased by four men who show their affections for her. Many people related to this production are optimistic about this drama's success. Although Choi's company has not finalized anything yet, but it is under positive consideration.

Choi's last drama was "Air City" in July of 2007. Her comeback into the screens has taken her a year and 6 months.
