On August 30th, the 65th Venice Film Festival kicked off. Attending was director Yu Lik-wa, escorting the stars of his latest film, "Plastic City." Also attending was the film's producer Zhou Qiang. It was the first attendance at an international film festival for actress Huang Yi.
After ten hours of travel, Huang Yi arrived in Venice. "Plastic City", under supervision by Jia Zhangke, is the only Chinese entry competing for this year's Golden Lion Award. That's a decline from previous years when several Chinese film were screened. And that means Huang Yi is the only Chinese actress vying for the title of Best Actress. Huang portrays a suggestive girl with a bold look.
"Plastic City" examines the Chinese population of Sao Paulo, Brazil. It features Joe Odagiri from Japan and Anthony Wong from Hong Kong. They play father and son. Huang Yi plays a mob girl. She says the performance was a big challenge. Half her lines are in Portuguese. Apart from that, Huang performs a song in Japanese.
