Hong Kong film auteur John Woo is breaking records.

His last film, Red Cliff, was once the most expensive film from Asia. Its price tag was US$80 million ($ 116.6 million).

Woo has gone to break his own record. His upcoming epic, Fighting Tiger Heroes, will come with a hefty budget of US$160 million ($233 million).

This movie, a joint Sino-US production, is about the legendary American Volunteer Group that fought alongside China against the Japanese in World War II.

Woo said in a recent press conference that he'd be exploring the friendship between the two cultures, as well as themes of courage and justice.

While no cast have been confirmed, Woo promised that audiences will be treated to the most spectacular aerial battle scenes ever seen in Chinese cinema.

Filming is to commence in Yunan, China at year's end.
