In preparing for her upcoming concert to take place at the HK Coliseum on May 7th and 8th, Jenny Yan accepted an interview with Commercial Radio yesterday. With regard to Stephen Chan’s corruption scandal, Jenny expressed that she was really surprised when she heard about it. Reports indicate that all artists who once collaborated in events arranged by Edthancy Tseng Pui Kun’s advertising company are being interrogated by ICAC investigators with regard to working for lower than normal wages. When asked what she thought of this, Jenny indicated that she herself definitely won’t be part of the investigation, as she only went on the show <<Be My Guest>> once and does not know Stephen Chan that well, so never had any business dealings with him. She says: “For all shows that I participate in, I always accept a price that I feel is reasonable and don’t really consider how much the party arranging the performance is willing to offer or how much ‘profit’ exists. So for me, there really is no such thing as a ‘pressure price’ since I always make sure to negotiate a price that is satisfactory to me before committing to doing the show – if the other party is a friend of mine, then of course I would go with a ‘friend price.’” She also indicated that years ago when she was asked to participate in TVB’s <<K-100>> show, she only received $100HKD; afterwards, she performed in many TVB shows and received quite a few ‘souvenir gold medals.’
With regard to some recent clips circulating on the internet that show someone emulating Jenny and Kay Tse singing each other’s songs, Jenny indicated that she knows who Kay is, but have never heard her songs. In the clips, it was pointed out that Kay was off-key and possibly had to do with her lung issue. Since Jenny is known for having ‘big lungs’ [TN: able to sing loudly without a mike and carry long notes], she was asked about this, with which she replied that singing involves using one’s ‘dan tian’ (area above the navel where ‘qi’ is located), not the lungs. Jenny also revealed that to prepare for her concert, she got braces as well as had laser vision done on her eyes – she once thought about ‘fixing’ her face as well, but in the end, decided against it.
