[MingPao reports] Angelababy Yang Wing is currently promoting two movies at the same time, therefore her name pops up in the news almost daily. Suffering from lack of sleep, she smiled and said that she misses home the most. Last night, Baby wore an outfit from Japan label ZUCCa's 2010 Spring Summer line to their fashion show; originally planning it to be a relaxing night, she vehemently denied, "It wasn't me!" in reference to suggestions that she took rumoured ex-boyfriend William Chan's virginity.

Refuses to publicize deflowering experience

Baby's image has always been clean and fresh, and has used excuses such as "it's an embarassing topic" and "I've already revealed my thoughts on it" in response to questions relating to William's virginity. When reporters asked if she has had this experience herself, Baby was beside herself. "This is very embarassing, it's my own secret, I'm definitely NOT discussing it! I'm not as open as William, so you will not see me discuss my sexual relationships on TV. I am a model and an actress, so I wish to leave a beautiful impression and memory in viewer's hearts. But I can confirm that the person he (William) speaks of as deflowering him, is definitely not me!" Baby revealed that she had never asked about William's personal life, because it is a private matter.

Did not lose out on gigs to Jessica C.

In response to allegations that Jessica C. is following in Baby's footsteps by entering the Japanese modelling world, therefore fighting for jobs with her, Baby denies it. "That's not true! The Japanese market is very big, everyone has different jobs. I need to congratulate her, since Jessica's appearance is very suitable for growth in Japan, she has a nice body and a sweet look."

Due to the royalty dispute between TVB and the big 4 record companies, both sides have participated in “boycott” activities, with the big 4 companies now allowing their artists to accept interviews with ATV and i-Cable in Cantonese.

Yesterday, God of Song Jacky Cheung held a press conference for his new Cantonese album << Private Corner>>; not only did ATV send a whole production crew and reporters from their regular news department to attend the press conference, they also arranged for Jacky’s interview with them to air during the regular nightly news hour – demonstrating how important the interview is for ATV. As a result, Jacky became the first artist from the Big 4 record companies to “appear” on ATV since the royalty dispute erupted – it also marked the second time in 19 years that Jacky has appeared on ATV. For today’s artists to be able to appear on other TV stations and not just be limited to TVB, Jacky expressed that this is definitely a healthy sign.

As an artist under the Universal recording label, Jacky once expressed that TVB was being too unreasonably restrictive, indicating that TVB does not provide a lot of support to its contracted singers, yet are quick to “freeze” (suspend) them on any little thing. In addition to over 100 reporters from various media outlets in Hong Kong and Asia attending yesterday’s press conference for Jacky’s new album << Private Corner>> being released today, top management from ATV (Yip Jia Bao) and i-Cable (Wu Rong Xing) were also invited to attend. TVB management Virginia Lok was also in attendance, however the station did not send any reporters or crew to the event.

Jacky accepted an interview with both i-Cable and ATV in Cantonese. Since ATV does not have an Entertainment News department, they sent a crew from their regular news department to report on the event and also interview Jacky. In addition, ATV arranged to have Jacky’s interview air during their regular nightly news hour, thereby showing how much they respected the interview. During the interview, Jacky expressed that music should be able to reach all audiences through all media outlets so that the more people who can hear Cantonese music, the better. He said that he doesn’t mind attending a music program put on by other TV stations as long as he has time; he also hoped that there would not be any “monopoly” type situation where artists would be affected. ATV manager Yip Jia Bao also indicated during the interview that he welcomes the “open attitude” of the record companies and that there are plans for ATV to produce a series of music-related variety shows. Jacky expressed that in Taiwan, he did an interview with a regular (non-entertainment) news crew once, but in Hong Kong, this was his very first time, so he was very excited.

Since Jacky has not released a new Cantonese album in 5 years, his record company Universal spent HKD 3 million for the press conference – to repay the generosity, Jacky personally performed 2 songs from his album at the event. Even though earlier in the month, Jacky had reprimanded TVB for their actions, Virginia Lok (from TVB management) did make time to attend, and Mr. Huang Jian Tao from Universal’s top management personally attended to her at the conference.

With regard to each of the major TV stations having top management in attendance at the press conference, Jacky expressed that it is a good thing, as it is better for them to have a cooperative attitude rather than a belligerent one. In terms of TVB not sending any reporting crew to the event, Jacky said: “Yes, that’s true…for them, it has to do with procedural and process stuff, so no need to worry about it.” He revealed that in the future, there are plans to appear on both i-Cable and ATV for interviews and to promote his album. Even though he will not be appearing in any TVB shows any time soon, he will still be participating in the promotional efforts for TVB/Shaw Brother’s film “72 Tenants of Prosperity” because his role as “singer” is completely separate from his role as “actor” and he is very clear when it comes to this.

When asked about Hacken Lee insisting to this day that he will be conducting interviews with i-Cable in Mandarin only, Jacky indicated that it his personal choice. Jacky says that for himself, collaboration with other TV stations is based on whether the timing and style of the project matches his own agenda; also he indicated that not being limited to just appearing on TVB shows is a healthy sign. Asked about whether he is worried his relationship with TVB will deteriorate as a result, Jacky replied: “If they ask me to do a film for them, I will definitely do it. In terms of singing, it will have to wait until after the royalty dispute is over. Of course, I also hope that TVB would be able to air MVs because at the end of the day, music is music.” However, Jacky did express that he is not happy with the way TVB handles awards ceremonies nowadays: “By editing out so many important parts in the awards ceremonies, it’s not very respectful and makes it very hurtful to musicians and recording artists – it’s really not a matter of ‘appearing’ on their station or not, but rather a matter of ‘respect.’” Jacky said that there are plans to air his MVs on ATV and i-Cable in the future.

Though Jacky was affected by the economic meltdown and Lehman Brothers situation last year, he still personally took on the production costs of his new Cantonese album. Jacky expressed that the cost was in the “7 figures” but it was necessary because of his high standards when it comes to the quality of his album. In terms of music quality, Jacky says that this is his best album to date, however it is also the most expensive (production-wise) compared to his previous albums: “Maintaining high quality when it comes to music is important – I believe money can always be earned back. Even though the album may not make as much money as it used to, I don’t believe that it will be a loss.” One of the features of the album is a special song dedicated to the late Lydia Shum (famous host and Jacky’s “god-mother”). Another feature is a special limited edition glass cover on the album, however due to the huge expense, this edition will only be available on the internet for approximately HKD 15000 a piece.

Back in 1991, Jacky was once “frozen” by TVB for appearing on a charity show organized by ATV to benefit flood victims in China. However, due to his status as one of the most popular and beloved singers in Hong Kong at that time, TVB quickly “unfroze” him and allowed him to appear on their shows again afterward.

A joint collaboration between Taiwan’s Domani, GTV and Zhe Jiang Hua Ce Group, idol drama – [Down With Love] (also named [Jiu Xiang Ai Zhe Ni]) stars celebrities from Taiwan and China, including Jerry Yan, Ella, Chen Zi Han, Michael Zhang, Yuan Wen Kang etc. Starting this weekend, [DWL] will join in the viewership ratings fight with other idol dramas in Taiwan. Acting as a superstar in [DWL], China artiste Chen Zi Han will once again lose to the “Cinderella” in the story. Although she is fighting with Ella for Jerry’s love in [DWL], both forthright female artistes are really good friends off-screen.

In [Love Strategy], Vivian Hsu acted as Chen Zi Han’s fashion assistant; while in [Down With Love], Ella acted as Jerry Yan’s nanny (for his nephew and niece). Coincidentally both “Cinderella-s” eventually defeated the “superstar” in love.

Especially in [LS], Chen has many scenes which required her to slap and show anger at Vivian Hsu. However both artistes are very close like sisters off-screen and would even play “kissing games” with no reservations during programmes. Hsu shared that Chen is a “tomboy” off-screen and would often walked around in her panty before her and she is also a forgetful and blur person. Her loyal and forthright personality also made many girls like being around her.

While filming [DWL] in Taiwan, Chen and Ella became very good friends too. During S.H.E’s world tour concert in Shanghai last year, Ella specially invited Chen to the concert. Although Chen was working in Nanjing on the same day, she hurried down within hours to Shanghai after her work, just to show support for her good friend.

CTV and GTV’s latest idol drama – [Down With Love] stars A-listers Jerry Yan and Ella. Prior to the telecast of the drama, the serial’s broadcast copyrights have already sold out in China, achieving high economic returns for the television stations and production team. However it seemed that the publicity plans and coordination would be highly dependant on the “big-shots’ will”, resulting in the crew members having a hard time in scheduling.

According to our sources, just trying to coordinate the schedule of both the male and female leads is a tall order. To date before the drama is aired, only 2 public activities can be arranged. One of the scheduled publicity was cancelled as Ella was supposedly displeased with being maligned by the production team. There were supposedly also restrictions to questions pertaining to romance rumours and playing games , if the cast is to go onto the variety shows.

The TV stations self-mocked that their publicity plans have been “most relaxed”. But in fact, they were filled with anxiety. The viewership ratings of the first 3 episodes of any drama serials are mainly through its publicity efforts. If the publicity to generate awareness is insufficient, even a strong cast would be hard to guarantee high viewership ratings.

In addition, the TV stations must also submit the drafts of their press releases to the celebrities first, as the “PR personnel cannot make groundless statements”. When the artiste managing company or record company has perused the press releases, only then can it be sent to the media.

Meanwhile Hebe was also said to be difficult to work with while filming [Bull Fighting]. The TV station crew explained that usually the record companies would need to first assess the nature of the publicity activities, the partnering artistes, the timing, topics for discussion etc, and still, might not be able to oblige the publicity request, “If romance rumours are spread, we are going to be in trouble.”

The Actor Ikuta Toma will appear on the popular documentary TV program "Jounetsu Tairiku / 情熱大陸 (lit. The Passion Continent)". Only five members of Johnny's Jimusho, including Kusanagi Tsuyoshi (SMAP), Ninomiya Kazunari (Arashi), Yamashita Tomohisa (NEWS), Nagai Masahiro (SMAP) and Nagase Tomoya (TOKIO), have been on the same program so far.

"I have been told 'Johnny's is quite frumpy!' Hearing something like this makes me feel more motivated." said Ninomiya, who has his special view on Johnny's Jimusho and Idol. He won't show how hard he is working privately, and he seems handling his job as an "idol" with ease.

As for Yamashita, who is a very popular idol, "When I am asked 'What's your job?' I will answer 'I'm a student'" (*He was studying in the college at the time of filming) he said naturally, "If you want to have something, you have to give up something else. Once I start, I don't want to lose.", "It is quite hard that my mother was work since I was young. I thought I had to start work as soon as possible." and "Even someone would tell me 'you don't have to do it' I will do my job. Man should work, right?" He fully showed his inside masculinity,

It is Ikuta Toma's turn this time, and his only working as an actor is quite rare for idol. Would he reveal his own "Actor Theory" and inner voice in the program?
Though he is an idol of Johnny's Jimusho, he hardly works on music programs nor variety shows, but only focuses on stage production and late-night drama which require strong performance skills. From the drama "Hanazakari no Kimitachi e/花ざかりの君たちへ~イケメン♂パラダイス~", he plays main roles in a large quantity of dramas and is known as a young actor with actual strength.

He will also play the main character in 3 movies from "Ningen Shikkaku/人間失格(lit.No Longer Human)' from February. The documentary will reveal his seven-month life from June last year. You can find his unknown real face and how he would approach "Hardliner / Straightness / Stoic" performance skill.

In the program, you will see he stays in the hotel room and reads the script, going nowhere else; and when you think he is trying to become slimmer for having Tofu and noodles only, he starts to exercising and push-up in order to play the character of a fisherman. "I want to meet the director's requirement 100% with cool face." That's his real thoughts as an actor.

"Approaching the people who have passion and dare to challenge" is the concept of "Jounetsu Tairiku". "I think he is the type who would jump off the cliff for his character." commented by the program staff.
Keep your eye on this man who devoted himself to the acting.

SEOUL (AFP) - SOUTH Korea will offer a hit TV series free to 81 countries as part of efforts to spread the 'Korean Wave' of popular culture, a state agency said on Thursday.

'Brilliant Legacy,'[also known as 'Shining Inheritance'] a domestic sensation last year, will be available free in Europe, Central Asia, Africa, America and Oceania, said the Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange.

'This TV series is both high quality and fun. It also showcases the new trend of Korea's TV soap operas,' it said in a statement.

The series features two young couples entwined in a family inheritance dispute and drew a nearly 50 per cent viewer rating at home.

It also received positive reviews for what was seen as a moving and morally inspiring plot, in contrast to other popular soap operas.

Last year the foundation bought the licence for another TV series, 'The Painter of Winds,' which was provided free to some 30 countries.

SEOUL - A South Korean court Thursday dismissed a lawsuit claiming almost four million dollars from singer and actor Rain, ruling he was not to blame for cancelled concerts during a troubled US tour.

Local entertainment group Wellmade STARM sued Rain and his agency JYP Entertainment in March last year for 4.57 billion won (3.95 million dollars) in damages.

The group, which financed Rain's US tour in 2006-2007, claimed he breached a contract with it by failing to perform 16 concerts.

Judge Bae Kwang-Kuk said in his ruling, quoted by Yonhap news agency, that poor preparations by US promoters led to Rain's aborted concerts.

The ruling came seven months after Rain settled a separate lawsuit over a cancelled concert in Honolulu in 2007.

A US court had ordered him and his agency to pay more than eight million dollars for breaching a contract with Hawaiian promoter Click Entertainment to perform the concert.

An agreement was reached last June to settle the case and avoid an appeal, Details were not disclosed.

Rain argued in the US case that the concert stage was not properly set up for him, and that he was unable to use his name in the United States because of a copyright challenge from a US Beatles tribute band also called Rain.

Boy band TVXQ's new single "BREAK OUT!" has topped Japan's Oricon daily singles chart the day of its release.

The group's 29th single album, released Wednesday, sold close to 170,000 copies to top the prestigious chart, easily beating out No. 2 L'Arc En Ciel who sold 33,000 copies of their single titled "BLESS."

They plan on releasing their first best album titled "Best Selection 2010" sometime next month.

TVXQ, who debuted in 2004 with the single "Hug", became popular not only in Korea but other Asian countries as well. Their singing career in Japan has been a success in particular -- last year, they became the first foreign artist to top the Oricon singles charts six times with their 27th single "Share the World/We are!"

Despite speculation that the group may disband with three of the five members being involved in a legal dispute with their agency SM Entertainment, TVXQ has continued their activities in Japan.

MBC's baseball drama "Strike Love" is set to premiere in Japan in March, according to the show's producer Green City Pictures Inc. on Thursday.

The sports drama -- which originally aired in Korea in May 2009 -- will be broadcast on Fuji TV-One starting March 18 and on Fuji TV-Two a week later, Green City announced in a press release.

"It is our differentiated strategy to air the show on two channels at almost the same time," an official at Green City was quoted as saying. "We plan to sequentially release the series through the Internet, media broadcasts as well as DVDs."

Organizers have also scheduled a press conference and promotional event for the TV series in Tokyo and Osaka in March.

As all of the scenes in the original "Strike" were entirely shot on location, producers have added a local flavor to the Japanese version by filming at famous landmarks such as Lake Haruna in Takasaki.

"Strike" was based on a popular comic series by noted Korean artist Lee Hyun-sae. Korean actors Yoon Tae-young and Park Sung-min star as two baseball players who are in love with the same girl, played by actress Kim Min-jung.

For a handsome young actor who has made his name playing pretty-boy roles, taking on the role of a gay man who is HIV-positive may not seem like a safe choice, especially in a nation where homosexuality is still regarded as a taboo subject. But with his new role in the play “Beautiful Sunday,” which begins its run early next month, actor Jeong Il-woo wants to show that he is more than a just pretty face.

Based on the play by Japanese playwright Nakatani Mayumi, Beautiful Sunday was first staged in Korea in 2006 and has been presented more than 450 times since then.

It takes place on a Sunday, when a heartbroken female stranger breaks into the apartment of a gay couple. It received rave reviews from critics, who applauded it for showing that there are many types of love between humans, whether heterosexual or homosexual.

Jeong plays Jun-seok, a gay art student in love with Jeong-jin, who is the manager of a family restaurant.

While the role is very different from the characters Jeong has played in the past, he was eager to give it a try. And unlike other celebrities who move from film to theater to polish their skills or advance their careers, Jeong thinks of this as a chance to mature.

“In some ways, doing theater is harder than doing a television drama or a film, but my inner adventurer pushed me to grab this chance,” Jeong said in a recent e-mail interview with the JoongAng Daily.

Many actors, whether they are seasoned or not, find it daunting to do a play such as this one, which has performances six days a week and runs for more than a month. Celebrities who are not used to the rigors of a long-running show will often ask to be double cast when they sign on for a theatrical role. The role of Jeong-jin, for example, is played by veteran theater actors Jang Jun-hwi and Lee Sang-hong, who alternate in the role. Jeong, however, is the only one playing Jun-seok.

For Jeong, it was not the hectic performance schedule that scared him, but the pressure of playing a gay man. Still, he says he is ready for the challenge and is eager to make the character his own.

“‘Philadelphia’ was the most impressive film [about homosexuality] for me, but the gay character in the film is portrayed as dark and gloomy,” Jeong said. “I want Jun-seok to be more of a guy-next-door type, a bright young man who anyone can see as charming and friendly.”

Jeong soared to stardom in 2006 when he landed the role of Yun-ho in the TV sitcom “High Kick!” Since then, he has had a diverse range of roles.

One thing Jeong says he misses about his old schedule is his privacy.

“It’s a shame that I have a limited amount of freedom, but I know what I’m doing now, I can say my life is good,” he said.

Beautiful Sunday opens on Feb. 4 for an open run. Performances are Tuesdays to Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 3 and 7 p.m. There are no performances on Feb. 16 and March 2.
