HE MAY be Taiwan-born but dig deeper and you'll realise that there's nothing really Asian about actor Godfrey Gao.

The 25-year-old celebrity, whose mother is Malaysian and father Shanghainese, grew up in Vancouver, Canada.

His family moved there when he was 9 years old.

Apart from his Canadian-accented English, his taste in music, food and even women all seem to shout 'white dude'.

Said Godfrey, with a smile: 'My ideal woman is (US actress) Jennifer Love Hewitt.

'I like Megan Fox and Jessica Alba too.'

The dashing Takeshi Kaneshiro lookalike said he has dated only non-Asian women.

Both his ex-girlfriends were Caucasian. The first was South African, and the second, Canadian.

He explained that it's because he grew up in a predominantly white neighbourhood, where the only Asian kids were 'geeky' exchange students.

But since he moved back to Taiwan four years ago to study and try his luck in showbiz, he has found that Asian women are 'really pretty'.

The business and economics student, who used to model, now acts and deejays as well.

Godfrey is best remembered for his role as a hunky basketballer in the 2007 Taiwanese drama series Bullfighting and can be seen in Momo Love, which is currently airing on Channel U.

As for his taste in music, Godfrey is into hip hop and R&B. His favourite artistes are Tupac, Dr Dre, Ne-Yo and John Mayer.

'I guess the main difference if I were to have grown up in Taiwan is that I would be much more into Asian culture, like Mandopop.

'I'll probably be listening to like... Lee Hom?' he said with a chuckle.

In Taiwan, he hangs out with other Western-born or raised actors like Eddie Peng, who also grew up in Canada.

His friends outside the entertainment circle are also mostly born or educated in Western countries, he said.

Godfrey was in town on Monday as a celebrity chef on the Channel 8 cooking show 3-Plus-1.

He had to impress the judges with his culinary skills but ended up with some bland dishes as he forgot to add salt and certain sauces.

Blushing with embarrassment, he admitted that he wasn't used to Asian cooking.

But he claimed he is quite good at whipping up Western dishes such as grilled cheese sandwiches, pizza, pasta, muffins and cookies.

His chocolate-chip banana muffins and chocolate-chip cookies are a must-try, he added.

The 1.95m-tall actor confessed that he feels 'normal' when among Westerners, but among Asians, he tends to stick out in a crowd.

His height has been quite an inconvenience, he said.

When filming his first Taiwanese TV series, The Kid From Heaven, the cameraman had trouble fitting him and his 1.6m-tall female co-star into the same screen.

Wooden blocks had to be lined on the streets for the actress to walk on to bridge the height difference.

Modelling in Taiwan also hasn't been a walk in the park as he doesn't fit into the sample clothes that typically fit a 1.9m-tall male model.

'But I do enjoy being tall. I inherited it from my parents. My dad is 1.8m tall while my mum is 1.68m tall.

'The directors like to make fun of me, though. They always ask, 'Must you be so tall?' he said.

And Godfrey's ultimate aim is to film action movies in Hollywood.

'Either that or I could play pro (professional) basketball,' he said with a laugh.

Playing a high-ranking general in "Little Big Soldier", a film written and produced by kung fu star Jackie Chan, was a role that Taiwanese singer Wang Lee-hom could not refuse.

But according to Chinese media reports, Taiwanese star Jay Chou was actually the first choice for the role.

"Little Big Soldier", a comedy-action film set during the warring states period in China, also stars Korean actor Yoo Seung-jun and Chan who plays a foot soldier that played dead and survived a great battle.

Chan's character takes the opposing army's general (played by Wang), who was injured during the battle, as his prisoner and tries to turn in the general to his own leader for a reward.

Jay Chou was said to have been the original pick for the general's role but Chan's wife, Lin Feng-Jiao, advised against it.

Lin said both Chan and Chou had a steely gaze so the latter would not be able to bring out the contrasting personalities of the characters they played.

She then suggested Wang, whom she said had a softer, refined look that contrasted well against Chan's rough and tumble film persona.

When Wang was offered the role, he jumped at the chance as he was attracted by the film's plot, though he knew that shooting it would be a gruelling process.

His features were perpetually obscured by mud and 'bloodstains' while playing the prisoner of Chan's character, but Wang says he did not mind.

"This is a very challenging role and it really tests my acting ability. I learned a lot and walked away with a lot of experiences so I don't find it difficult at all," he said.

Sharon Chan, Kate Tsui, Jeanette Leung and the rest of the cast members to <The Beauty of the Game> attended <The Beauty of the Game: Dance of 2010> event in Olympian City. The purpose of the event was to encourage people not to get involved with drugs. Sharon and Jeanette clashed in outfits at the event, just that one is black and one is white. However, Sharon was not embarrassed about it.

Sharon frankly said that the clash in outfit was an accident: "So surprising, this is the first time I clash with someone, I never thought it would happen in such a casual event. But its natural that there will be lots of people buying pretty clothes, I felt that this shirt was very cute so I brought it. When Jeanette gets back, she better remember to tell her boyfriend to sponsor me! Her boyfriend is Japanese? A Hong Kong designer? I didn't know!"

Jeanette heard Sharon's comments at the side and started blushing in embarrassment. She denied that he was her boyfriend, but admits that he is currently looking for artists to sponsor clothing to.

At the event, Kate showed off her dance skills, partnering up with Stephen Huynh to becoming dance king and queen. Kate said: "The series got better feedback then expected, at first I was worried that the holidays would affect the ratings, but realized that viewers would still catch the episodes online. Actually the series is quite positive, it's telling everyone not to get involved with drugs, hoping that audience can understand the meaning behind the story." It was rumored that Christine Ng's vigorous slapping scene in the series is a reenactment of the scene where Liza Wang slaps Jamie Chik? Kate said: "I'm not sure, when I was filming the producer had told me about it. The scene has some true and false, we were to estimate our actions."

Hong Kong actor Shawn Yue was recently accused of being "arrogant" by the Hong Kong media. He was said to have angered his teacher, Alan Tam, who has decided to groom his junior from the same management company, Gregory Wang, instead.

Emme and Gregory were recording a Valentine's Day programme called True Love a few days ago. When the reporter ventured onto the topic of Shawn's conceited attitude, the 28-year-old singer-actress said, "Everyone has different sides. Please try not to ask me on this. After all, this is a problem between him and the company. It is not convenient for outsiders to comment."

Further reiterating that they are "merely friends", Emme gave her two-cents when the reporter asked her about Shawn's conceitedness, "[He is] like a very normal man. Everyone has different characters - the media just tends to exaggerate on certain areas."

"I am merely analyzing the situation as a longtime friend. Criticisms from the public and the media have further exaggerated this matter."

Taiwanese artiste Godfrey Gao appeared bemused when he cleared the air on his alleged May-December relationship with Jolin Tsai and said that the rumours were "rather hilarious". The 26-year-old artiste was recently in town to participate in a Channel 8 variety programme, 3 Plus 1 and appeared to be troubled by his alleged relationship with Jolin.

"I am not really familiar with her! We were introduced by friends .We were out with a group of friends that day, we were not dating! There is no relationship!"

He further clarified his stance and said, "Nobody shot [photographs of] the both of us being alone too."

Apart from his refutations, the 1.94m-tall actor praised Jolin for being a very professional singer with a serious working attitude and gave her the nickname, "Taiwan's Diva". When the reporter asked if he was a fan of Jolin, he obligingly replied, "She can be counted as my idol. She is really very charming."

Godfrey shared that it was Taiwanese artist, Lee Wei, and his co-artist from the same company, Peach, who introduced him to the pop princess, who is four years his senior.

"That is a misunderstanding. It was a group of people who went, nobody took photographs of the both of them being together alone," said Peach, who was also present at the filming of 3 Plus 1.

She further explained, "Godfrey and I belong to the same management company and Lee Wei knows Jolin. As it was a gathering between a group of friends, we did not have the intention of introducing them to each other."

Perplexed at the ongoing speculations, Godfrey said in resignation, "These are all rumours. I feel that they are a little silly."

Despite the rumours, the good-looking one does not plan to stop his partying ways. Strongly influenced by the western culture due to his upbringing in Canada, he said, "I love the feel of going to parties. You can go there to socialize and get to know many people. It might even help you in your career, and may clinch you a good job."

"Xiao Zhu" Show Luo is always a happy character, full of life and presenting a happy face for others. In recent years, he has worked his interests and hobbies into his own fashion line --STAGE, which sells clothing, hats, jeans, and accessories. Within 3 years, STAGE has already become a favoured store in Bei Gao, and has expanded into Xiang Jiang and Singapore, with plans to further develop in Mainland China, USA, Europe, and Japan.

STAGE is actually a manifestation of Show's outgoing character, the concept being "SHOW-Stage hyaline of world." Therefore, no matter how busy or tired he gets, he will push to achieve his dream of having locations all over the world.
With $3 million invested in STAGE, since it's opening in 2007 Show has been deeply involved in all aspects of the business, and still personally makes rounds at his store today, calls to ask about the number of customers, and watches security videos to ensure great service is provided when he is out of the country.

Show describes the hardest part of running STAGE as time management. He has to MC, hold out of country concerts, record commercials, and attend promotional events, so he only has the early morning hours to meet with shareholders and visit the store. Usually, his meetings run until 3 to 4 am, and he often has to work early in the morning, sacrificing valuable sleeping time. However, Show doesn't have regrets; he loves his job, and remains optimistic and happy.
Xiao Zhu's path has not always been smooth sailing; he had to go to court with his past manager Kevin Sun, and during those years battling in court, he was very hurt, but remained optimistic about humanity.

Being very humorous, he has been dubbed a comedian at heart, but his acting skills are also evident, as he has been nominated for the "Golden Bell Best Male Lead" award. Show has also worked hard on his dancing skills, finally holding a world tour, and garnering the title "Dancing King". Last year, his father passed away, his internet pal was exposed as a "lovefraud", leaving a trail of pain. But, the outgoing artist was not knocked down, and has only increased his interest towards charity work; just yesterday, he lead a blind person during a commercial filming.

Xiao Zhu's evident drive is not uncorrelated with his new store, and he constantly reminds himself to "Concentrate on work, or else be eliminated." Due to people criticizing his store being based on an original concept, but eventually becoming "just a fan hangout", Xiao Zhu was very upset, and spent a lot of time reworking new ideas, sketching every idea out. When he sees many people wearing his designs in the streets, he is rewarded by unbound happiness.

However, when he sees that his designs did not come out as expected, he will get rid of the whole design, saying "I cannot allow customers to buy half-made designs, or defective accessories, right", leading him to choose materials himself, and setting high criteria for each and every product. There is only one goal, which is that more and more people will accept and love his fashion line.

As a result of his hard work, he is rewarded with results and with many overseas orders. His Taipei location had a record of 600 customers in line, and with business breaking the million dollar mark, as the owner, he is not mean nor stingy, rewarding his employers last year generously with a cruise ship trip out of the country.
Having created such a magnificent front, not only is Disney willing to sell its licensed products in STAGE, after Show has had some time to reel back from the success, he is planning to open a restaurant related to eggs, since he is a huge egg lover, sometime within the year.
Xiao Zhu's STAGE is captivating, with new and innovative products, and his own collection of shoes is also mind boggling--his most expensive pair is worth $220,000, and many overseas fans from Japan and Mainland China have come just to visit his shop.

Kanjani8 released three singles from Dec.23th to 25th. And these three singles topped the Oricon chart of Jan.4th! It is the first time that three singles of the same artist rank the 1st, 2nd and 3rd on weekly chart at the same time, both for single and album charts history!

'GIFT~白[white]~', released on 23th, ranks top, while, 'GIFT~赤[red]~' of 24th and 'GIFT~緑[green]~' of 25th rank 2nd and 3rd respectively. It is known that several artists used to rank both 1st and 2nd at the same time, for example, Seiko Matsuda, Southern All Stars (サザンオールスターズ) and other 6 artists on the single chart, Shinichi Mori, Yosui Inoue, Ayumi Hamasakii and other 16 artists on the album chart are on the record.

"We tried to release in this way and see what would happen, and we ourselves enjoyed it a lot. All three singles ranking the top 3 of Oricon chart makes us feel very lucky!" commented by Kanjani∞ member Ryo Nishikido. "It is thanks to the support of our fans! Thank you very much!" Yu Yokoyama was full of gratitude.

1. Michael Jackson

The King of Pop, the music legend, Neverland, the strange man-child with the disintegrating nose and child molestation scandals, and his long-awaited mega concert. Then, he just dropped a la This Is It (ominously the name of the concert series) with a sudden cardiac arrest, sending waves of shock and unbridled emotional frenzy worldwide. 2009 may have been the year of notable deaths amongst celebs like Farrah Fawcett, Stephen Gately from Boyzone, Patrick Swayze and most recently, Brittany Murphy, but none caused a global surge of media attention, fans gatherings, tributes, and booming posthumous music and memorabilia sales — and marketing. Like the live broadcast of his memorial service which was watched by an estimated one billion people worldwide, and then the movie, also titled This Is It, quickly released with unseen footage of his concert preparation.

2. Andy Lau

The man who was pretty much the poster-child of eternal bachelorhood, and one fine day, gets exposed this year by the media to be married in Las Vegas… in 2008?! The million-dollar question wasn’t why Hong Kong Heavenly King Andy Lau decided to keep his marriage under wraps, but how long could he have been able to play hide-and-seek with the persistent press folks after they spotted him at the funeral of his longtime partner's father. After all, the guy did once proclaim about promising to go public with marriage plans in the past. Then again, you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to type his and longtime partner-now wife Carol Choo’s namesakes online into the marriage records of the Clark County, Nevada website for your answer. Now thanks to the watershed revelation, fellow Asian stars such as Leon Lai, Miriam Yeung have him to (not) thank about having their secret nuptials — to Gaile Lai and Gary Ting respectively — uncovered.

3. Lee Min Ho

Playing a spoilt rich brat in the humungous hit K-drama Boys Over Flowers propelled him into the fame stratosphere and made him, literally, the idol worship of every living female aged eight to eighty. And he’s only 22. Now at Korean hair salons, men are requesting (or forced by their girlfriends) to sport the same ringlets Lee Min Ho had in the drama. In October this year, the ‘Sunshine Boy’, labeled as such because of his impish grin and boyish good looks, was so hot that his impending arrival at Etude House (the Korean makeup brand he endorses) in Plaza Singapura, which led more than a 1,000 fans sardine-packed in the mall, had to be cancelled at the eleventh hour due to safety concerns. His second visit in December was slightly less ballistic but that’s because fans will behave when they need to fork out at least $98 to catch him in fan-meeting session.

4. Lady Gaga

She didn’t just put the ‘pop’ back in pop music this year, Lady Gaga also single-handedly kickstarted the induction and acceptance of extreme, OTT fashion into the mainstream. Her choice of outfits, including a coat of several Kermit The Frogs stuck together to a dress made of transparent and strategically-placed bubbles, caused as much as stir as her string of electronic dance hits like ‘Poker Face’ and ‘Just Dance’. Then there are equally outrageous, equally intriguing music videos that are a mix of Alice in Wonderland fantasy and the dark places of an unconventional mind and altogether, Gaga-esque.

5. Fann & Chris

They’re like our very own Bradgelina, except without the United Nations kids adoption. Fann Wong and Christopher Lee knew their publicity machine well enough to get both the media and ordinary folks fussing over them — dangling a carrot of a movie titled The Wedding Game to whet our appetite, hosting a fashion travelogue together (as if we needed proof of how cute they are together), appearing in a magazine photoshoot in the Maladives, designing bridal jewellery, and then their own TV show chronicling their romance and ROM. Every milestone of their relationship has been caught on camera for all eyes to feast on: From their nonchalant denials before finally admitting to dating each other to Ah Jie Zoe Tay’s coaxing their real-couple kiss during the Star Awards, and then their grand Shangri-La wedding banquet on September 29 and another dinner in Chris’ hometown of Malacca the following month. It’s only logical we’re all expecting news of a bun in the oven, no?

6. Adam Lambert

Season Eight of American Idol saw Kris Allen take home the title from fellow finalist Adam Lambert, but no prizes for guessing who’s been making the headlines since the finale. Heck, Glambert was already become the show’s biggest talking point since he first appeared on our TV screens, opened his mouth, stuck out his tongue and sang like a vocal gymnast on steroids. Even when his sexuality (the guyliner, the hair, the flamboyant fashions, and his, er, musical theatre background) was instant fodder for Internet discussion and debate (photos of him kissing another men surfaced), his singing chops and popularity never suffered. How could it when he could send shivers down our spine with the chilly, haunty tune ‘Mad World’ one week, and then do such a refreshingly intimate twist to Smokey Robinson’s The Tracks of My Tears the next? And it seems like whatever happened on Idol stays on Idol. Post-show, Glambert is blasting full steam ahead: Confirming the homosexual rumours on Rolling Stone magazine, creating a storm with a sexually-charged performance at the American Music Awards (he locked lips with his straight male pianist) and oh yeah, released his debut album, appropriately titled For Your Entertainment. Indeed.

7. Vic Zhou & Mark Chao

What happens when you put two good-looking, hot-blooded guys together? Apart from speculations if either or both are batting for the same side, there’s also the old-fashioned assumption that they could be the best of (straight) friends or the worst of enemies. Despite their onscreen roles as buddies in the hit Taiwanese drama series Black & White, it seems like the relationship between Vic Zhou and Mark Chao off the set is anything but. The former started out as a teen idol who only recently finally managed to break out of the mould to make his mark as a credible actor, while the latter is a new kid on the block face who’s already got his share of the spotlight and recognition. Both men were nominated for ‘Best Actor Award’ at the recent Taiwanese Golden Bell Awards, which eventually went to Mark. Even before the winner was announced, Vic did not join his fellow cast and crew members on the red carpet and was later quoted saying that the votes were rigged after his co-star won. And with a movie sequel trapped in development hell, it only means more room for rife. Already the rumours are going around that Vic will not be featured in the flick, so it seems like audiences won’t be seeing a reunion between the two heroes.

8. Number 8: Fiona Xie

Fiona Xie isn’t new to controversy, but when the now ex-MediaCorp actress bailed out of the mega blockbuster drama of the year Together at the last minute (try the first day of shooting), it unleashed a chain reaction of conspiracy theories surrounding her unexpected, undetected disappearance (she’s preggers, she’s a kept woman of some tycoon, she’s keeping a tycoon toy boy, etc), and it didn’t help that she remained virtually uncontactable for four months. Turns out the buxomly one surreptitiously jetted to Hong Kong where she is pursing a career in photography and dating a younger man, as revealed when she returned here — without word or fair warning, again! — to do an interview with two local magazines. The only comfort her fans have: she’ll still be doing ad-hoc projects with her former employer.

Number 9: Dai Yang Tian

Eight episodes in the 2008 blockbuster drama Little Nyonya was all it took to make Shanghai native Dai Yangtian an instant heartthrob and leading man. He scored his first major role soon after in the ping-pong drama Table of Glory, and now headlines the star-studded cast of this year’s blockbuster drama Together. Not only that, he’s also earned the unofficial title as the new go-to guy for pairings with local starlet Jeanette Aw, which has made for much tabloid talk about their reel romances turning into reality. (They’ve starred as lovers in three productions: Little Nyonya, stage musical The Peranakan Ball, and current TV drama Together.) If you thought that wasn’t enough fuel for gossip fodder, this guy isn’t just linked with one woman, but three, namely Felicia Chin and Ann Kok, the latter who is older than his 25 years caused a ‘cougar alert’ stir amongst netizens. And he outlasted all allegations and his star looks like it’s still set to go even higher. After all, when you open up about sexual life being on the wane of late in a local magazine and not suffer any backlash, you’re on the right track, baby.

Number 10: Ris Low

Despite being lambasted for her poor diction, criminal record of credit card fraud, and quitting her Miss Singapore World crown, Ris Low can still consider her year of 2009 to be “boomz”. The neologism she blurted out in a video interview posted online in August, when she was still a contestant on the beauty pageant, was originally used to describe a sartorial impact, and is now probably the most parodied and widely-used adjective in local linguistics, besides the other words which were mispronunciations like “leopard preenz” (‘prints’) and “rad” (‘red’). That got the 19-year-old ranked as one of Asia’s 25 most influential people by Cable News Network (CNN) this year, dubbing her “Catchphrase queen”. And you thought tee-shirts printed with the word “Boomz” was the best it could get. Now, the ex-beauty queen wants to organize her own beauty pageant contest next year. You can bet that she won’t be leaving the headlines any time soon.

- Show Lo’s 7th album “Rashomon” pre-order sign-sing function in Pingtung&Kaohsiung on 12/26 broke 4,000 people!
- “Trendy Man” held 102 billboard champions. “Accessorized Trendy Man” exaggerated mix-n-match sets out again!
- “Love’s Premier Show” 15 second pre-order commercial on 12/23, breaks 37,000 views on YouTube in 4 days.
- Grand expenditures on pre-order complimentary gifts : 80 pages of size A4 photobook, $1 million, and film roll shades $0.5 million.
- Self-choreographed “Sunglass/Shades Dance,” Record company films music video, afraid that Show Lo may get poked in the eye with especially designed shades, insures $50 million!

Show Lo’s 7th album “Rashomon” is set to release on January 15. Record stores and convenient stores nationwide began pre-orders on December 22. Show Lo has begun promotions for his new album, and yesterday (12/26), he was in Pingtung and Kaohsiung holding his pre-order sign-sing functions. Because it was the Christmas holiday on top of Pingtung’s nice weather, plenty of fans attended. In the two functions, there totaled over 4,000 people! Show happily expressed, that his shout-out in a video clip : “To take a good looking pictures, there comes a price. Friends and fans, if you don’t support y album, or if you buy a pirated version, you guys are dead meat!” really worked in persuading his fans!

For his album “Rashomon,” his first release is “Love’s Premier Show” and has already premiered on 12/23 on HIT FM. In discussing his album title, they were torn between “Love’s Premier Show” or “Rashomon,” but in the end, under Show’s persuasion, “Rashomon” it was! Show expressed, because he didn’t want listeners to just base or generalize the music production on the title of the album, “This time, I worked hard in trying out new styles of music, it’s like opening up many doors of music. This also made me rediscover : Show Lo, in the world of music, still has so many possibilities to explore!”

Thus, besides his first release “Love’s Premier Show” which infuses techno, pop-rock, pop and big beat, there’s also a dance mix of R&B, Hip-hop, and break beat in “Rashomon.” And the theme of “Hi My Sweetheart” Band Sound – styled, “Head Over Heels in Love,” and the atmospheric Jazz in “Why We Must Be Together, “ along with the slow rock ballad “As Long As You’re Used To it.” They’re all more mature and different from Show Lo’s previous singing styles. Show also said, “I’ve already released 7 solo albums, of course I’d be anticipated to have my fans and other listeners simultaneously sense the changes in each of my new songs, having them listen to music as if they were opening up music’s Rashomon doors, and getting unexpected surprises!”

Show Lo’s album from last year “Trendy Man Chronicles” not only broke his personal record sales record., but also landed in the first place of 102 billboards globally, and for 2 consecutive years, he’s withheld a spot in the annual top 10 records sold placement. The figures are perhaps one of the strangest, with rising numbers even in the recession of the music industry! Even his 15 second commercial, after being placed on YouTube for 4 days had broken 37,000 views, thus Gold Typhoon Music set out large expenditures of $1 million on a “Premier Extravagance Version” with the A4-sized Trendy Man 80 Page photo book, and half a million dollars on “Love Show De La Mode Version” with trendy man postcards and film roll shades.

In the insert of Show Lo’s album, he also tried out several outfits, and personally demonstrated an “Accessorized” style, and very cleverly used many accessories in his outfits. From all sorts of wild and avant-garde shades, earrings, ties, wool shawls, riveted tiles and metallic fashioned scarves, etc…he used these to accessorize with different styles of clothing. Show also said that the so-called “Accessorized Trendy Man” is to break the formulaic impression of a men’s clothing styles and freely fashion all sorts of styles, accessorizing your own brand new attitude.

Donned in the exaggerated and avant-garde shades, Show Lo was unable to see anything while he was dancing, it’s like he was living in a world of darkness or he became temporarily blind, “So when I was dancing the dance I had choreographed, I can only rely on my memory to think of the steps. I think the pinnacle of dancing is this kind of of “Blindman’s Dancing!” And his record company was worried that his atypical shades would injure Show Lo’s charismatic, electrifying eyes, they had had helped bought a $50 million dollars insurance for him!
