Charts: "K-On!" puts first anime character album at #1

For the first time in history, an anime character album has taken #1 on a weekly Oricon sales chart. "Houkago Tea Time," a mini-album performed by the fictional band from the anime series "K-On!," sold 67,000 copies in its first week to top the rankings against little competition. Before this, four anime character singles had reached as high as #2 on the charts.

The only other new albums in the top ten this week were by Jerry Yan, ROCK'A'TRENCH, and Koji Kikkawa, landing at spots #8-10, in that order.

On the singles chart, EXILE had a predictably strong showing with "THE HURRICANE ~FIREWORKS~." At 174,000 copies, it sold about 60,000 more than the rest of the top ten combined. This is EXILE's fourth consecutive chart-topping single, and their eighth in total.

Aya Hirano came in at #3 with her latest song, "Super Driver." Idoling!!! picked up the #5 spot, while the reunited band Cali Gari made their way to #7 and Rina Aiuchi landed at #9.

Wonder Girls to perform in Mexico

The Wonder Girls will be performing in Mexico soon.

On 29th July, youngest member Sohee said on her twitter, ” We are gonna go to Mexico in 2days! How’s the weather over there? TELL ME!!”

On 28th July, Ye Eun also updated her twitter, saying, ” I just saw mexico fans’ video clips! Ican’t wait to go and meet them!”

The Wonder Girls’ management company JYP Entertainment said, “The Jonas Brothers Concert will be held in Mexico, and the Wonder Girls will also perform in Mexico City, said,” and “Both the Wonder Girls and the Jonas Brothers will be performing twice in Mexico City on July 31st.”

Idol group 2AM member JoKwon recounts an episode with WonderGirls SunYe.

2AM was on KBS Joy ‘Pretty Boys Carriage’ when Jo Kwon was asked if he has looked at WonderGirls SunYe with feelings as an opposite gender. Jo Kwon said, “Even though I am close with SunYe, I didn’t have any feelings as a guy. The reason is that SunYe has first warned me not to look at her with feelings as a guy.”

With that the MC asked what was the meaning of that, and JoKwon said, “From SunYe’s way of saying it and her actions, it seems that she did not look at me as an opposite gender. SunYe and I have been training under producer Park Jin Young for 8 years, we have become like a family instead.”

Actor Gets 5-Day Detention for Car Accident

Chinese actor Zhou Jie has been sentenced to five days' detention for hit-and-run in a car collision. His application for a reprieve has been accepted.

Zhou was charged with hit-and-run and speeding after his Mercedes Benz R300, which wasn't carrying its license plates, collided with a taxi in Beijing's Chaoyang District at around 4 a.m. on June 2.

The cab overturned on its side and hit an electric pole. No fatalities were reported but the cab driver and two passengers sustained injuries.

Zhou allegedly called the police and emergency assistance, but he left the accident scene and couldn't be reached until 12 hours later.

On top of the detention, the actor has also been hit with a penalty of 2,200 yuan (US$322) and suspension of his driver's license.

Zhou, 39, shot to stardom after starring in the 1997 hit television series "Returning Princess Pearl".

Ara’s J-Dorama debut

South Korean actress Go Ara (19, simply known as ‘Ara’) is going to appear in the upcoming episode of "Karei naru Spy" and with that is going to make her debut in a Japanese dorama. She’ll play the role of a Korean woman who is going to somehow reach out to the genius swindler played by Nagase Tomoya (30). With her first movie role as the heroine in one of the most expensive Japanese movies ever made, "Genghis Khan: To the Ends of the Earth and Sea" (2007), she already gained much popularity outside of South Korea and continued to increase it with her role alongside Kuroki Meisa in "Dance, Subaru!" (2009).

Episode 3 of "Karei naru Spy" will focus on the courtesy call of the Japanese prime minister in South Korea. Ara’s role is going to be one of the main characters in this Japan and South Korea joint production episode. Nagase’s character is going to consult her about his sorrowfull past and therefore will feature one of the key moments of the overall story.

The filming took place back in July and despite some first confusing differences between the production of a Japanese and a South Korean dorama, Ara even made efforts and tried to discuss various things and problems together with Nagase himself. She was looking forward to her first Japanese dorama and learned a lot of new things. Ara has what it takes to become one of the bigger names and chances are high that it’s not only going to happen via roles in South Korea.
