Park Jin Young must be a marketing genius. Photos followed by a teaser video were released in quick succession yesterday of the Wonder Girls in slim leather costumes. But minimal details were revealed with fans trying to second-guess what it was for. Some said it was for a music video while other claim it might be for a commercial.

The guessing game is over now though. The Wonder Girls who are models for KTF will be turning themselves into Fin.K.L and do a remake of their famous hit Now. This is not new as idol groups like Big Bang and Girls' Generation have remade Lee Moon Sae's Red Sunset and Lee Seung Chul's Girl's Generation respectively in recent times. The remake of Now is expected to be something worth looking forward to as it has been created with the Wonder Girls style in mind, new dance chereography and the addition of Yoo Bin rapping.

The CF will be tied in conjunction with promoting KTF Ever new mobilephone called the X-Slim Phone which is extremely slim (less than 1cm thick) like what it's name suggest. This will explain the slim leather outfits that the Wonder Girls were wearing for the CF. I am not really fond of KTF CFs because the last one that the Wonder Girls did was quite average while Park Min Young also did a couple for them which was average as well. Maybe it will be different this time but LG Cyon and Samsung AnyCall seems to have better CFs.

The KTF X-Slim CF featuring the Wonder Girls will be released on 4th April.

Eleven years after starring in a famous music video for a song by ballad singer Jo Sung-mo, actress and hair-envy provocateur Kim Haneul is again taking the lead role for the singer’s latest MV.

When she starred in Jo’s 1998 “To Heaven” video alongside Lee Byung-heon, Kim Haneul was a relative unknown who gained a lot of exposure when the MV (and song) proved to be a massive hit. So when Jo Sung-mo asked Kim Haneul to appear in his newest video, she agreed right away. She’ll star in the MV for the title track “I Was Happy” [행복했었다] off Jo’s comeback album (his last full-length release was four years ago with “Second Half”).

Most MVs are passing affairs, but “To Heaven” is a bit of an exception, and is still memorable as one of those prime examples of kpop’s fixation with awesomely melodramatic, over-the-top and tragic storylines. It had a cinematic flair and grand scope, as well as an ending that left an impression. The video even spawned a remake (for the recent song “To the Hospital”), although that was pretty much a flop.

The “I Was Happy” MV shoots on April 3. Meanwhile, Kim Haneul’s upcoming romantic-comedy spy movie with Kang Ji-hwan, Level 7 Civil Servant, opens on the 23rd.

Popular idol group Fahrenheit had been really unlucky lately, the members had been either injured or sick and almost became a ‘wounded group’, making fans very worried. The four of them rushed to Singapore to promote their new album ‘Loving More and More’ after finishing their Malaysia concert the day before.

Yesterday while accepting the local media interview, Fahrenheit reported their safety, and expressed that there is no major problems with their heath, hope that fans will not worry, Wu Zun said, “We want to be healthy babies of 2009, we are not wounded soldiers!” With regards to members getting hurt time and again, Jiro Wang expressed, “Actually we are rather well, and everyone doesn’t need to look at it so seriously.” Wu Zun also said optimistically, “Look at it from a different angel, it’s not a bad thing getting hurt too, like my injury this time gave me the chance to learn how to play the drums, there is gain and loss.”

Wu Zun, Jiro Wang and Aaron Yan all had leg injury, Calvin Chen is the only member who is lucky to be safe, but he is being burdened by rumours and also can’t get any peace. When asked about his rumoured girlfriend, Calvin Chen once again clarified that the other party is only friend; he smiled and said, “Caused my family and friends not to come support my Malaysia concert this time round! But actually everyone is friend, its nothing, I will not don’t dare to make friends because of this.” There were reports stating that there was a fan who tried to kill herself because of news about Calvin Chen having girlfriend, Calvin Chen said seriously, “I don’t know if there is really such a thing, but I did urge fans online not to do such things.”

When asked about the news on his role in the new drama being taken over by newcomer Nick, Aaron Yan said with a serious face, “The company severely reprimand this information, we are considering two dramas at the same time, maybe its because the company spent a longer time on arranging so causing someone to sprout nonsense and spread this type of news. This piece of news is not accurate.”

The ratings for the two dramas had not been good for Jiro Wang, with regards to this Jiro Wang said, “There are bound to be stress during filming, hope that there will be breakthrough… most importantly is that we had worked hard, we felt a sense of achievement filming “ToGetHer”.”

How much more competition are we going to see between China's two most famous actresses, Gong Li and Zhang Ziyi? First it was the movies, now the field of fashion.

Gong attended Louis Vuitton ready-to-wear Fall/Winter 09/10 show during Paris Fashion Week, wearing a light blouse and a pair of wide leg jeans ensemble from the label's Spring/Summer 2009 collection, while Zhang was announced as the first Chinese woman chosen by Emporio Armani, presenting its ready-to-wear collections, accessories and eyewear.

Gong certainly knows which part of her body to highlight. Her wide-legged denim pants and tight obi belt accentuated her perfect shape. She certainly has a sense of "street style". The lacquered wood bangles and the Sprouse leopard print clutch bag added even more color to the whole dress.

Fashion Week Daily named Gong the "best dressed". Gong was sitting by Yves Carcelle in the front row, showing her prestige in fashion circles.

Zhang, meanwhile, has been paired with Taiwanese-Japanese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro, the first Asian male face in Emporio Armani's advertising campaign. They now feature prominently in the brand's promotion in China for Spring/Summer 2009.

Giorgio Armani says Zhang is a perfect match for his brand, "possessing a very distinctive beauty, traditional and uniquely oriental, but at the same time there is an appeal that is very young and very modern".

Gong Li at Louis Vuitton's ready-to-wear Fall/Winter 09/10 show during Paris Fashion Week.

Zhang is clothed in more colorful dresses, giving her a younger image. Her delicate over-sized wallet in hand marks a new generation's statement about being rich and powerful. Most of her expressions are plain, however, even a little angry, showing her power and determination to be a fashion leader.

Before Zhang worked on these campaigns, she said: "Armani has for some time been my choice of wardrobe for events. I am captivated by the unmistakable style and sophistication of his clothes."

The actress is in Armani's debt. She has worked with Armani many times, including wearing his dresses at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards.

Zhang and Gong have often been linked in the public's eyes and are together known as "Mou's girls", in reference to director Zhang Yimou. Zhang owed her early success to him through films like The Road Home and Hero, while Gong rose to fame more than a decade ago in Red Sorghum and Raise the Red Lantern.

At the time of Zhang Ziyi's breakthrough movie, Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in 2000, the Time Asia website said: "Gong Li was always all woman: insolent, stern and sturdy, a threat to the men who wanted her. Zhang Ziyi is a promise of girlhood ripening, inside, to womanhood. If Gong was an image of China's power and defiance, Zhang is a China ready to conquer the world with charm."

In the fashion world, honors may be said to be even. In any event, their similar flat faces, dark eyes and hair, white skin and inner power all express a typical Chinese beauty, a beauty some of the world is only now beginning to fully appreciate.

Ten blockbusters in five years! Investors of the "5510 Big Movie Plan" announced their ambition on Tuesday as they launched the Hong Kong-mainland project in Beijing.

The second "5" in the project's title stands for 500 million yuan (US$73.18 million) as financial support for the project, according to Hong Kong film producer Jimmy Heung, whose company - Win's Entertainment - is one of the five investors.

"I'm very optimistic about the future of the mainland film market," Heung told reporters. "When I first came to Beijing a decade ago, a movie usually earned no more than 20 million yuan. Today it is ten times that number."

Four Beijing-based companies are cooperating with Heung in the 5510 Big Movie Plan.

Yet collaboration between the mainland and Hong Kong is not limited to investors. The Plan's first two films will also call upon talents from both sides, Heung said at the launching ceremony.

Lee Lik-Chi, a Hong Kong comedy director of such popular works as "Flirting Scholar" and "The King of Comedy", will direct two comedies to be starred in by mainland actor Huang Xiaoming and award-winning actress Li Bingbing.

The 5510 Big Movie Plan is not the first joint effort of Hong Kong and mainland filmmakers. In February, Hong Kong director Peter Chan and mainland filmmaker Huang Jianxin launched a company named "Cinema Popular", through which Chan hopes to help cultivate more elites for the Chinese-language cinema.

HE'S known for his good looks and background in martial arts.

But when it comes to picking roles, Daniel Wu has eschewed the conventional path to stardom.

Over the last eight years, the 34-year old actor has played a diverse list of characters - charismatic killer (New Police Story, Divergence), melancholy, wishy-washy crown prince (The Banquet) to even a couple of men-who-love-men roles (Bishonen, Enter the Phoenix).

So why not play roles that just cash in on his looks?

'When you're doing creative work, you have to challenge yourself all the time,' was the actor's reply in a roundtable interview with the local press.

His aim: 'To be an actor that audiences are excited about.'

He added: 'Personally, I admire actors who push the boundaries and don't set limits for themselves.'

Daniel was in town with co-star Jackie Chan to promote his new film Shinjuku Incident, a mega production that features a star-studded cast and crew from Hong Kong, China and Japan.

In the film, opening in theatres tomorrow, Daniel and Jackie play Chinese illegal immigrants Ah Jie and Steelhead, who struggle to make a living in Tokyo and later find themselves entangled in the tussles of Japanese mobsters.

Born and raised in California, Daniel acknowledges Jackie as his all-time idol.

He revealed: 'When I was a kid, his gongfu films inspired me to pick up wushu.'

But the two could not be any more different when it comes to carving out their careers as actors.

Jackie is recognised as the Big Brother of Hong Kong's entertainment industry, and is known for being the daredevil in his extensive portfolio of action movies, leaping off buildings and fending off enemies with bare fists.

Daniel, on the other hand, displays a commitment to honing his craft.

Shinjuku Incident sees him in another character-transforming role, one that dons gothic punk make-up and spirals uncontrollably into drug addiction.

Daniel admitted that when he first saw the sketches of his character Ah Jie's image, he wondered whether they were 'too exaggerated'.

'It was shortly after we started filming in Tokyo that everything made sense,' he explained.

'The visual kei culture - a movement in Japanese rock music, characterised by flamboyant, eccentric costumes - is huge in Japan and bands like X Japan are idolised by teenagers.

'Many youngsters dress like Ah Jie (referring to his character). Plus, he was going through a depressed and mentally unstable state due to his facial disfigurement. The gothic punk make-up serves as a mask to hide his insecurities.'

He has no qualms about uglifying himself for the sake of art, but there's no hiding his dashing, heartthrob looks.

The minute he made his entrance into the press conference arena at Swissotel The Stamford on Monday afternoon, it was not hard to sense a spontaneous bubbling of excitement among the female journalists.

Instantly, you could feel the collective power of reflex actions - all eyes averted towards the stage, every single gaze fixed on one man's countenance.

Of course, it takes a man as suave as Daniel to create such fluttering hearts.

Daniel the director?

Despite the slew of dark, intense roles over the last few years, there is still more to challenge himself with. Daniel said he would one day, want to do comedy.

'I've been doing too many bleak characters, it'll be great to do something light-hearted for a change,' he said with a grin.

'The Heavenly Kings (a movie which he also produced and directed in 2006) made me realise that I do have comic timing; it'd be fun to explore that side of me further.'

Daniel has not forsaken directing as well, though acting will always remain his top priority.

'Directing is my hobby, a channel I turn to when I feel I have something strong that I want to express,' he said.

He certainly stamped home his point in The Heavenly Kings, a satirical, hilarious mock-documentary that poked fun at Hong Kong's shrinking Cantopop scene and gossip-laden media institution.

Fans of Daniel will be glad to know that he already has 'some ideas in his head' and will 'most probably get down to directing a new film in the next couple of years'.
