"All About Women" has brought together two blockbuster movies which performed extremely well at the box office last year. One was "Warlords", put together by three old men while the other was "Assembly" put together by 30 or so old men. Tsui Hark seemed to be aimed at quite a bit because he was determined through the subversive ideas of "All About Women", that this movie would have a similar impact over the new year. Therefore, a film where a group of women who never keep any promises with each other but want to be together and are always in strife with each other, is created. This has caused countless women to daydream in their spare time to carry out that mission but also to be courageous on their path to finding love.

Three women, three personalities. In their lively worlds, they cannot live without men. However they are met with incomparable rejection and hatred. The female boss role that Kitty Zhang has is very interesting. Everyday she continues to attract men then has fun recklessly trampling their habits. Furthermore she enjoys it and never becomes tired of doing this. She is very aware of her capitalism and dominance. She has already perfected this gift of hers, living life without constraints. Zhou Xun acts as a female doctor who is very passionate towards men, will show them the rigidity and coldness of her body and mind. She doesn't know how to be more assertive and doesn't have any confidence, trusting only the pheromones of love. As to Kwai Lun-mei's strong character, she is very much like an uncivilised girl who has forgotten her identity and gender. All day by the means of mixed-up activities and lack of schedules, she does various irregular actions. They all have their own understanding of love, but still haven't found the love that will cause they to become anxious.

It could be said that the ideas about men and love that these three women have, all have their extreme characteristics. At the same time they also have strong utopian ideals. As to whether they are looking for love or discovering love, you could say they are saving themselves from their career as a "remaining girl" in a crisis environment. Just like fighting a battle of no return, entering a war of enormous strength like "Warlords" and "Assembly", walking a path of no return. Through a lighthearted storyline, a rich awareness of crisis as well as a touch of sadness will make people ponder being able to feel some emotions afterwards. You will discover that all the absurdities are created equally by life and also that life cannot bring the craziness of falling in love for the first time everyday and also cannot predict your ending because that would be cruel.

This movie looks closely at our ideal visions of love, the aim is, an approach towards the process and existence of choices that are on the verge of craziness. The ideas of love created by these three relationships will stun people, almost denoucing all ideals of love and also portrays it as what causes a person to be on the brink of survival. Korean screenwriter KwakJaeyong who is full of spirit doesn't seem to be talking about any romance but rather, is using a series of incredible stories to denounce a person's mid-life crisis. Mid-life crisis, how can Tsui Hark say it isn't? If he says so, then it is so! In fact, all first loves are that beautiful. Then at the end a person's spirit is stranded, like taking a drug, like the weakness of being in love created by pheromones, like the instability of wearing high heels, like the unreliable rise and fall of the economic crisis.

The film's structure is very delicate. If you break it down carefully, it has a rather refined, clever structure - even though the concept is ridiculous and the style is at times very powerful and unconstrained. Sure enough KwakJaeyong is a genius, but is also clever in trivial matters - the typical subversion of an uncivilised girl still remains. On the other hand Tsui Hark uses tacit understanding to create this crazy love story. He uses a comedic style different from his previous films to show respect for the original screenwriter and present a fine film. If the stage dialogue was more colourful and had more Mainland speech, I think the result would be even better. Previously in the script, the connections were very complicated and seemed excessively long-winded. Also, the climax in the film's middle and ending, is definitely rich and powerful enough but also slightly obstructive. If some was omitted and the pace was sped up, perhaps the result would have been better.

As to the acting, all three actresses have their own beauty and spotlight - none is stronger than the others. As Kwai Lun-Mei's character suited her, the result was slightly better while Kitty Zhang and Zhou Xun were not as lively, their acting was too heavy and lacked some spirit. Perhaps this is why most Hong Kong directors criticise Mainland actresses for lacking comedic genes, this has been a problem for a very long time and would therefore be difficult to resolve.

The film's biggest focus is probably Eddie Peng. To say the truth, in the film he is the only actor who can exemplify the real spirit of a comedy. He doesn't have much actions but has all kinds of smaller parts, enough to accumulate a lot of popularity and earn praise. Very often, he reminds us of Cha Tae-hyun who endures love and sufferings. Even though his role is not big, he still steals the uncivilised image from the three actresses.

Fahrenheit's Wu Chun has a secret skill which can make flowers look prettier and food taste more delicious, much like bewitching, he talks nonstop to these things!

Fahrenheit's new MV "Loving More and More" reflects their own feelings about love, being a famous celebrity and meeting a girl you love but not being able to say anything. Arron Yan acts as the shy male star and through the encouragement of Wu Chun, Jiro Wang and Calvin Chen, he finally gives her flowers and reveals his feelings.

Also, this bouquet of flowers have been given Wu Chun's "added support" because when not filming, he was mumbling continuously to the flowers, causing people to become puzzled, up until they filmed the flower scene. Then he explained, "As long as you keep telling the flowers, 'You're very beautiful' - they will bloom even more beautifully!" As soon as Calvin heard he laughed and continued, "So that's why when you say to your food 'it's delicious', it's because you want the food to become even tastier!"

For his new movie 'Ci Ling' (刺陵), Jay Chou (周杰伦) searched many countries for a 'J-Girl'. He said: "She musn't be taller than me, preferably Chinese, able to communicate with me. She should understand the magic I perform, Zhou Xun (周迅) would be a very good choice, we even have the same surname. The most important thing is that if there were rumours between us, no one would believe them."

Taiwan's Chang Hong Group and Mainland China's China Film Group has invested RMB100 million (about TWD$408.4 hundred million) in Ci Ling. Yesterday Jay organised a large press conference. Chang Hong's boss, Wu Dun (吴敦) looked for a female lead all over Taiwan, including Japan and Korea. He already has some people apparent in mind, but he purposely kept it from Jay. He said: "I'll see which one Jay feels is best, then I will pick her." Director Kevin Chu (朱延平) said: "Who asked Jay to be young, I'm scared later on there would be a older girl-younger boy relationship."

Many people are in favour of Korean actress Kim Tae Hee (金泰希), but Jay has a soft spot for Zhou Xun. He said: "We met before at the Venice Film Festival, and we just collaborated in Yuan He Ping's Beggar So. Her image and acting skills are both very impressive, and I'm good friends with her boyfriend, Li Daqi (李大齐)." Jay expressed that he completely doesn't understand how the term 'J-Girl' came about. He said: "I've only heard of Bond Girls."

Ci Ling includes action, adventure, literature and manga, and Jay will be wearing both ancient and modern costumes. The wushu choreographer Cheng Xiao Dong has already come up with extremely difficult actions, even giving him many cool weapons. Kevin Chu said: "When Jay is films action scenes, he doesn't complain at all. The last time when we were filming Kung Fu Dunk, he was hung in the air for the whole afternoon. This time I want to shape him to be more 'man', more tough." Jay feigned coolness and said: "The last time, it was because there were many fans looking at me."

'Secret' and 'Kung Fu Dunk' didn't get recognised in the Golden Horse Awards, Jay said: "Do movies with action immediately get classified into commercial films? Does it mean only films with plain text only is considered art? What type of movies get the recognition of the judges? This deserves some thought. I feel action movies are the hardest. Especially since I am not Bruce Lee (李小龙) or Jet Li (李连杰), who started training very early. So for me to act well mean I have to put in extra effort."

Jay Chou has been receiving endless offers for movies. Next year he will film Ci Ling first, later on he will direct his second movie. But if there is a movie with a good script, director and team asks him to act, Jay said: "I will take it first." He will need time to consider if it requires very intimate scenes. He says: "Because 6,7 years ago, when I first debuted, I filmed a cell phone commercial without my top on, and it was pasted all over the streets. I really regretted doing that. If in the future it is required for a movie, it must make sense, then I will act in it."

Actor Jo Seung-woo (Go Go 70, Tazza) really wanted to make his army enlistment “quietly” (his words) — so he headed off to training camp on the 15th without a big send-off. We did get, however, article after article telling us just how very “quietly” he went.

Jo’s last project was the film Like Fireworks, Like a Butterfly, a movie with Su Ae (You’re Far Away) and directed by Kim Yong-kyun (Boys of Tomorrow), which just finished filming last month. The project just completed poster shoots and is in post-production, and planning for a 2009 release.

Following four weeks of training, Jo will enter active duty; his discharge is scheduled for October 23, 2010

Bae Seul-ki will be the main actress in the new global Hollywood film "Finale" which European actors and actresses are working on.

Bae has been in Germany since the beginning of December and has been filming the teaser film and poster. Her character is the cold blooded killer "Siyeon" who fights against the Italian Mafia with her martial skills. The setting will be the Korea vs Italy soccer game back in 2002.

The full crank in for this movie will be May of next year. And the film is predicted to be released on February of 2010.

Other movie stars in this film are Jeannette Hain, Sergio Albelli, Lorenzo Renzi, and more. Music director for "Old Boy", "Public Enemy", and "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" will be working on this film.
No industry insiders or analysts would have predicted the Cha Tae-hyeon romp "Speedy Scandal" would hit pay-dirt at the box office.

But through shrewd marketing and word of mouth from advanced screenings targeting specific demographics, the film has thus far amassed an impressive attendance figure of 1.5 million in 12 days. With a production budget of a modest $1.8 million, the comedy has already broken even and stands to turn in a tidy profit. Nine days was all it took for the film to achieve 1 million in attendance.

Aside from Cha, the film's headliner, the movie's lack of star-power makes all the more astonishing the number of advance ticket purchases, a figure competitive with Hollywood heavyweights "Twilight" and "Australia".

According to DCPLUS, the production house that financed the picture, "there's been an increase in attendance the following weekend after the film's premiere", and the film looks to ride the wave of positive feedback from moviegoers and reap the benefits of its buzz.

A few years ago, these figures would not have made many headlines in domestic media outlets, as films like "Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War", "The Host" and "Silmido" all broke Korean box office records.

Those were the years when the domestic film industry was at its peak, helped by a 40-year-old screen quota the government had implemented in order to sustain the viability of the domestic film industry.

The screen quota was a legislated policy that enforced a minimum number of screening days for domestic films in the theater each year. The system was enforced to prevent foreign filmmakers from dominating the domestic market.

But with the reduction of the screen quota as a result of the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement in 2007, more and more Hollywood films began infiltrating Korean screens, resulting in a dramatic reduction of the market share for domestic films.

Since then, the Korean film industry has been on the decline, just as the Mexican film industry did when its government completely abolished its screen quota in 1994.

With sporadic hits from marquee filmmakers being the exception, Korean titles have been overwhelmed by the onslaught of Hollywood films since the reduction of the quota.

Helping to turn the tide, this year has seen a number of homegrown hits like the year's box office king, "The Good, the Bad, the Weird", "The Chaser", "Public Enemy Returns" and "Forever the Moment".

With the unexpectedly stellar performance of "Speedy Scandal" and the box office legs of "Portrait of a Beauty", there is hope that the Korean film industry might rally.
