Hong Kong entertainer Vivian Chow and her partner, Joe Nieh, released separate statements Thursday announcing the end of their 19-year love relationship.

The Chinese entertainment media have unanimously devoted their headlines to the troubled couple, having been focusing on them since some photographs showing Joe Nieh kissing another girl surfaced.

Joe Nieh apologized to Chow in his statement, saying he appreciated her tolerance over the years. "I know that fans no longer think Vivian should date me. So I decided to be an ordinary friend to her. It's undoubtedly a big loss to me."

Chow said in her statement that she doesn't regret having been in love with Nieh.

Forty-one-year-old Chow is nicknamed "Jade Girl" for her squeaky-clean image. She had been dating 44-year-old Nieh, an author and radio show host, since 1989.

Earlier this month, Nieh was caught by paparazzi kissing a girl outside a nightclub. He later explained that he was drunk and didn't even know the girl's name.

Fans swarmed the Korean pop star's show in California. And now, Choi Dong Wook, known as Se7en, will take on Washington.

"Nobody hates the number 7," Se7en said about his favorite number. "I want to be everyone's luck. I want to give them luck from my music."

The 25-year-old has won nine Korean Music Awards (equivalent to Grammys), as well as Most Popular Korean Singer (MTV Asia Awards). In addition, he's sold out shows in both South Korea and Japan, in arenas that sit 20,000. And after four albums in South Korea and two albums in Japan, he's ready for the states.

"My music is pop and R&B, so the music that I love is born here, in America," said Se7en, who has been singing since age 5. "In Asia, every singer, their best dream is America."

Se7en is coming to Washington for the first time this week, performing in Seattle at Fremont Studios Saturday and signing autographs in Federal Way on Sunday. After more than 3,000 people showed up for his Highlands Night Club concert last May in Hollywood, who knows how many Seattle-area fans will turn out? More than 1,000 queued up for San Francisco and Orange County signings, arriving as early as 7 a.m. for autograph sessions that started at 2 in the afternoon.

"It's really like, so special, that I'm here in America, not Asia, but still people know me and people are supporting me," said Se7en. "That kind of thing is really like an honor, and I'm so thankful about that."

With hip-hop-flavored dancing skills, an R&B taste and Michael Jackson-inspired clothes, Se7en is like a pop-ier Justin Timberlake. Over the past year and a half, Se7en has settled in Los Angeles, working on a self-produced American debut album all in English, set for release in February.

"It was pretty hard. I'm still working on my English," said Se7en, who describes himself as a hardworking, happy person.

The singer has a hit-making team that includes Grammy Award-winning producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins (who has worked with pop stars like Beyoncé, Ludacris and Michael Jackson) and Noize Trip (who produced Fergie and Pink). They created a hip-hop-funk-R&B album, with Se7en collaborating with such rappers as Fabolous and Three 6 Mafia. And Se7en's first single, set for release next month, is with Lil' Kim.

"I want to show them something from Asian culture, something fresh, something new," said Se7en. "Me and Lil' Kim come together — isn't it kind of fresh?"

He is looking for an American major label to work with, and if successful, he could be the first Korean artist of his caliber to break into this market.

"Music is just music — music is universal," said Se7en. "I don't think it matters where I'm from. It doesn't matter my face color. ... I want to show them just my music, then my singing, my dancing, my performing — that's the point."

Jang Dong-gun (Taegukgi, Friend) made a television appearance on the inaugural December 14 episode of the new talk show Park Joong-hoon Show on KBS. The reason this is noteworthy is that Jang has eschewed broadcast appearances and hasn’t been seen on a talk show in eight years.

His last drama appearance was in 2000’s All About Eve (co-starring Chae Rim), and he’s been keeping a low profile in recent years. He hasn’t been very active in the Korean entertainment sphere for the past three years, mostly because he’s been working on the Hollywood production Laundry Warrior (co-starring Geoffrey Rush and Kate Bosworth).

In the show, Jang was uncharacteristically open and frank about his life, including his early days, his career, his romantic experiences (and failures), and yes, how it’s awfully lonely up there at the top.

Summary:
Known to be a good student in his youth, he’d failed his college entrance exam because he’d suffered from pneumothorax (collapsed lung) in high school. He underwent surgery for the condition.
After failing to gain college acceptance, he’d thought himself quite unlucky. When he was discovered for his first ad job, he decided to pursue the actor’s life in earnest.
He got that first gig when he’d been working various part-time jobs around his neighborhood, and was discovered in a “street casting” for a print ad.
Host Park Joong-hoon asked about the rumors of Jang’s plastic surgery. Jang maintains he’s 100% natural, and that the reason his cheekbones seemed much more prominent in his Typhoon days was attributed to drastic weight loss — more than 10 kg.
He currently weighs 72-73 kg, a “comfortable” weight. Right before Typhoon, he’d done Taegukgi, where he was his heaviest at 80 kg. That made his drop down to 67 kg for Typhoon that much more noticeable.
Often asked about his height, he gave the exact measurement, 181.4 cm.
Is he tired of hearing comments like “You’re so handsome”? Answer: “I’m not tired of it. To be honest, I feel good whenever I hear it.”
Is his absence from television was because he’d wanted to retain his mystique? Jang answered that it’s partly due to his personality (he doesn’t feel comfortable appearing in front of people) — and partly due to his belief that he would rather show himself through his acting instead.
What does he do in his spare time? Jang doesn’t have particular hobbies, but he likes to travel. Because he so often talks to reporters while promoting his projects, discussing his achievements and work, he begins to think, “I don’t know who I really am.” When those feelings build, he goes away on a trip, to rediscover himself.
However, he’s been feeling lonelier lately, as he grows older (he’s 37, or 36 by Western counting): “When I was younger, I enjoyed solitude. These days, I’m really lonely. A lot of nights, I can’t sleep well.”
Sometimes he comes home from drinking with friends in the early morning (2-3am) and is hit with feelings of despondence. When he mentioned this to fellow actor Kim Min-jong (Woman of Beauty Park Jung-geum) recently, who sympathized, Kim gave him a sudden hug and handed him his own rosary.
Jang’s loneliness is such that there have been times when he’s lain awake in the middle of the night (2-3am), drunk a few cans of beer, and thought to himself, “If I get a call from a woman within 20 minutes, I’ll marry her.” (And… following this interview, Jang will suddenly be inundated with midnight phone calls…) He explains, “I have a lot of good friends, but it’s a void that people can’t fill.”
About dating: He’s only ever dated a couple women “seriously.”
He’s gone on a couple blind marriage dates, but “obviously those couldn’t work out” — “the other person knows too much about me, and holds prejudices about me” while he would know nothing about them.
He attributes his failed dating experiences with the inability to do normal things — other people get to know each other as they go out to eat together or watch movies, but he can’t do those things.
The hardest thing about being a star: “missing the ordinary.”
In the past (earlier in his career), Jang wanted to live a normal, ordinary life, but he’s realized he can’t have that. “I’m okay with that now, but the process of coming to that realization was difficult.”
He thinks that perhaps later, “when I think back to my 37-year-old self, I’ll regret living too seriously.”

Twins is about to disband! Charlene Choi was in Shanghai earlier, and she was asked by reporters, what plans do Twins have for the new year. Charlene helplessly replied that it's up to the management company to decide. However, she does not deny that perhaps disbanding would be better. An insider in the industry expressed that Twins has been established for 8 years already, and now with the nude photo scandal, it should be time for them to withdraw from the industry.

After the outbreak of the nude photo scandal, Gillian Chung was rarely seen in public, and this made Twins sink into an all-time low. This year, for the whole year, they have not released a single music work.

Earlier, Charlene accepted an interview from the China media. She, who has just celebrated her 26th birthday says that she is getting old, and revealed her wish to marry and have children. Towards the people who are concerned about Gillian’s current movements, Charlene replied, “She has always been very self-blame, and she feels extremely apologetic to me, letting this affect my career. However, I don’t really care anymore, and I won’t feel any resentment or hatred towards her. I really miss the old times when she was my partner; this memory is very beautiful.”

When asked whether Twins will still continue to exist, Charlene looked very absent-minded. She replied: “This is up to our management company to decide, but I feel that perhaps disbanding would be better, because this group has given Gillian too much pressure. I only wish for her to be happy, everything else is not important anymore.”
