J-girl Jiang Yu Chen has officially cleared up her rumours with Jay Chou, saying: “If we were previously together, or are together now, then let me die from obesity!” Coincidentally, Jiang Yu Chen’s english name is Jessie, and after rumouring with Jay, they have become the new “Double J”.

Press conference for new album; Jay offers congratulations through VCR

Jessie held a press conference for her new album yesterday, and 2 of the songs in her album are composed by Jay. Although Jay did not personally come to the event, he offered his congratulations through VCR, but it seems he wants to avoid more rumours as he pulled his good friend Will Liu to film the VCR with him. Jay revealed that initially, he wanted to sign Jessie, however rumours ruined everything*, and hence he apologized. He also jokingly complained that the title track for her new album is not written by him, making him unhappy. This made Jessie laugh.

Praised her for being pretty; insists there is no electricity

Jessie and Jay speak with one voice, wanting to get rid of the rumours, both expressing that they are only good friends. Jessie emphasized that her BMW was not given by Jay, but was given by her grandpa to transport her sick grandma to and from the hospital. She also said that she has never been to Jay’s house, and the BMW that was infront of Jay’s car is not her car.

On the topic of Jay, Jessie greatly praised him saying he can compose, good to his family, lots of talent and even admitted that he was her idol when she was in junior high. However she insisted that there is no electricity between them, and they get along like brothers. She even expressed that Jay hardly ever praises her for being pretty, but rather always teases her about having a manly voice, and always telling her not to talk too much: “Only after filming his “Qing Tian Wa Wa” and “The Longest Movie” MVs did he say I was pretty, and I think he was talking about in the MV.”

Jessie met Jay 2 years ago, and she even tried out for the role of Qing Yi in Jay’s movie “The Secret That Cannot Be Told”. Although she did not get the role, she left a deep impression on Jay and since have become good friends.

*I think he means that if he signs her, then people will think he is only doing so because he likes her, and not because she has talent.

The drama was announced last month, publicized for being the first series written by Taichi Yamada in 11 years and for starring Yukie Nakama and Ryo Kase. Now, the show also has the backing of Enya's music.

Oh Man-seok (King and I, The Vineyard Man) got his start in musicals, and now he’s taking on his debut directing role for the upcoming production of The Happy Life.

Not only does Oh direct the musical, which is currently in the midst of rehearsing, he polished the script himself and wrote the lyrics to the songs. Most of the actors are musical theater veterans, although there are a few screen actors as well, including Yoo Joon-sang (Tell Me Something, Catch a Kangnam Mother) and boy-bander Ryan of Paran.

The story centers around two guys who are crazy about music. One is a high school music teacher, “Beom-jin,” who has broken up with his girlfriend and now eats sadly alone in front of his mirror out of habit. Another is the younger “Sae-ki,” whose mother left and whose father died in a sudden accident, leaving him an orphan. In this rather dull world, the only thing that makes these two feel alive is music, offering them their “happy life.”

Oh explains, “The title ‘Happy Life’ is somewhat ironic. None of the characters have much to be excited about, and are depressed. But it’s about the music, love, and lives of people who do what they can to ignore that aspect and live each moment of their lives joyfully. It’s a musical that’s both cheerful and emotionally weighty.”

Yoo Joon-sang takes the main role of Beom-jin and says, “When I was asked if I would work on a project with Oh Man-seok, I answered immediately. The script was good, and when I met with Director Oh for the first time, I found myself having faith in him, and that faith has grown stronger as we’ve worked together.” Also appearing as Beom-jin (in alternating performances) is veteran musical actor Im Choon-gil.

The role of Sae-ki is also split among actors, the main one being Kim Moo-yeol (of SBS’s Iljimae). It’s interesting to see Ryan of Paran taking his acting more seriously (he also appeared in the dramas Hello Miss and I Am Sam); this will be his musical theater debut. He says of his role, “Because I’m a timid person, I’m the type who does pay attention to people’s reactions. So when the time draws closer to my performance, I’ll be losing some sleep.”

Oh Man-seok explains, “I’ve directed without pay before, but this is the first time I’m being paid to direct, and therefore I feel a big sense of responsibility, fear, and nerves. Still, I’m doing my best to work with these good actors to create something from nothing.”

The musical runs from November 21 through February 8, 2009.

"Ong bak 2," the troubled and delayed sequel to Thai martial arts smash "Ong bak" has finally set a release date.

Outing on Dec 5 was confirmed at a press conference Tuesday by star and first-time helmer Tony Jaa.

"Ong-bak 2" cost almost Baht 300 million ($8.8 million), according to Somsak Techaratanaprasert, head of Sahamongkol Film Intl. "And it took three years instead of one-and-a-half, as we originally planned," said Techaratanaprasert.

Earlier this year U.S. and Japanese distributors canceled the pre-buy contracts with Sahamongkol Film for failing to deliver the film on deadline.

"Now that the film is almost finished, I believe we can look for buyers again. The quality of the film will prove itself."

Speaking from Santa Monica, Gilbert Lim, Sahamongkol int'l sales chief, said "our message to buyers was that Tony Jaa is back and that we will have a film for December." Lim said that he had sold smaller territories during the American Film Market, but was holding back major territories until a completed film could be shown. "We are very confident of what we have."

In August, production of "Ong-bak 2" was rocked by the news of Jaa's disappearance from the set and his subsequent squabble with the studio over an allegedly inflated budget.

Jaa returned to the film a month later and refused to talk the conflict with the studio. "I only want to talk about the film," he said. "It's the film that I've put everything into."

"Ong-bak 2" is a period piece set in ancient Cambodia, with Jaa starring as an orphan who goes after the bandit who kills his father.

Having previously been credited as the sole helmer, Jaa now shares the directing credit with Panna Rittikrai, his mentor and Thailand's foremost stunt choreographer.

The 1929 novel "Kanikousen" by Takiji Kobayashi is being re-adapted as a film. Director SABU is helming the picture, and Ryuhei Matsuda has been chosen for the starring role.

The original novel, which depicted the proletarian struggle of abused workers on a crab-canning ship, saw a revival of interest this year and went on to sell an additional 600,000 copies so far in 2008. It was previously turned into a movie in 1953, directed by and starring Sou Yamamura, and recently it was adapted as a manga.

SABU said that his take on the story would focus less on social critique, opting instead for a more entertaining, pop sensibility, filled with black humor. He further mentioned that the film is not set in any specific era, though it will have a modern pop influence in its costumes and design, including capsule hotel-like beds aboard the ship. SABU is also planning to use CG for the film.

Filming for "Kanikousen" starts at the end of this month. Release is scheduled for 2009, and there are plans for international distribution and participation in film festivals.

Hong Kong veteran actor, 71-year-old Patrick Tse sees nothing wrong with dating someone younger. After all, his girlfriend is the ripe old age of 23.

Shin Min Daily News reported that at a recent show hosted in Shanghai, he spoke about his relationship and proudly claimed that "love has no boundaries" and that they are both "truly and very much in love".

The father of popular Hong Kong singer-actor, Nicholas Tse, is currently dating Coco, a Shanghainese who is the same age as his daughter, Jennifer Tse.

However, Patrick does have a few convictions when it comes to dating young women: He does not believe in fooling around and causing distress to the other party, and he does not believe in marriage or having children.

"It's not beneficial for the future well-being of the child, so it's best not to get married. The current situation is ideal. It's not easy bringing up a child, although making one is easy," he said.

According to the Chinese daily newspaper, Patrick revealed that he knows what goes on in people's minds when they see an older man dating a younger woman and he does not care what others think.

"It's ok as long as the both of us do not mind being together.

"I'm much more energetic than most of the young adults these days. When it comes to dating younger women, I'm only World No. 2. The No. 1 title should go to Franklin Yang instead," he joked.

Franklin Yang, who is currently 86 years old, is a Chinese-born American physicist who married Weng Fan in 2005 when she was 28.

Patrick strongly believes that it was fate that had brought him and Coco together.

"Fate brings people together. Without it, no two beings would have had the opportunity of meeting each other in the first place.

"She's from Shanghai and I'm from Hong Kong. We live so far apart from each other and it was fate that had brought us together," he exclaimed.

Patrick also expressed that he feels very blessed at the moment because of the people around him - his mother, children, grandchildren, as well as Coco. His family is also very supportive about his relationship with her.

"Nicholas and the rest of them are very happy for me. I'm really quite lucky to have such a pretty girlfriend," he said.

At the start of this year, actress Mao Inoue starred in "Anmitsu Hime," a Fuji TV drama special based on the manga of the same name. Fuji TV has now revealed that there will be an "Anmitsu Hime 2" to once again ring in the new year.

Inoue will of course reprise her role as the tomboy princess. One of the highlights of this year's episode is a sword fighting scene between Anmitsu-hime and a villain, played by movie actor Riki Takeuchi, who last appeared in a television drama in 1999. Asahi Uchida will play a supporting role.

"Anmitsu Hime 2" will air in early January.
